It’s been a tough week what with the passage of the measure in Canada’s Parliament calling for an end to arms sales to Israel. We can remind ourselves that at least the resolution did not call for Canadian recognition of a Palestinian State as originally proposed.
I saw a headline over night that the US was putting forward a resolution at the UN that would call for a ceasefire without mentioning the hostages. That turned out to be untrue. The resolution linked the two and was vetoed by China and Russia. The United States continues to back Israel’s war aims, in spite of public disagreement over how they are to be achieved.
It’s easy to look constantly at the news and become discouraged. It’s important to remember that we have many supporters and allies, even in this difficult time. It’s also important to read everything with a skeptical eye. Part of the information war is directed at supporters of Israel in an attempt to demoralize us.
Today’s post is just a quick note to wish everyone who is celebrating a very happy Purim and to remind everyone that when Haman, yimach shmo (may his name be blotted out) plotted the destruction of the Jewish people, the Jewish people pushed back, and with the help of allies, survived and thrived, while the schemes of our enemies were thwarted and they suffered the fate they had envisioned for us.
So enjoy some Hamentashen if you can, and the company of loving family and friends if they are nearby. If not, I pray that you join the celebration with members of your local community and remember that the People of Israel lives.
