I’m in the air, en route to Vancouver for a gathering of the clan to mark my Dad’s 90th birthday. The top story from Israel is that the IDF has pulled out of southern Gaza. Is this more of Israel following American orders?
Israeli defense minister Gallant says the army pulled out to prepare for future missions, including in Rafah. He reiterated that Israel will achieve its objective of eliminating Hamas from power in Gaza.
Meanwhile, the UN Secretary General who has frequently expressed harsh criticism toward Israel, chose the 183d day of the war to denounce the Hamas atrocities which triggered the conflict. Is he taking orders from the Americans too? The Americans also publicly called on Egypt and Qatar to pressure Hamas for a deal. New rumors of progress on a hostage deal emerged from meetings in Cairo.
The unrest in Israel against the government continues as does the pressure for an immediate hostage deal. There was a terrorist shooting this morning in which a 19 year old woman was gravely wounded and another man moderately hurt.

Yesterday the death in combat of four more soldiers was announced and the body of Elad Katzir, one of the hostages was found and returned to Israel.
The sabre rattling by Iran continues. A barrage of missiles hit the country from Syria and another volley came from Lebanon. The army announced it was ready for whatever Iran might have planned.

Isn't it is possible that the IDF pulled out of Southern Gaza because it meets the Israeli government's objective(s)? Isn't there Israeli public support for the withdrawal from the south? Maybe this a lucky coincidence that also serves some of the U.S. goals?
